EA eliminating Online Pass on existing games

Several weeks ago, EA reported that they were ending it’s online pass program. Corporate communications rep John Reseburg stated that “many players did not respond to the format” and also that “none of their future games will include an online pass”. The Online Pass, a one-time use code required for online play, first appeared in 2010 with the intent of being exclusive to EA Sports games, though it quickly escalated from there.
Just recently, Reseberg also announced that over the coming weeks, EA will get rid of all of it’s online passes in it’s games. Reseberg told Gameinformer,

“As we discontinue Online Pass for our new EA titles, we are also in the process of eliminating it from all our existing EA titles as well,” Reseburg says. “We heard the feedback from players and decided to do away with Online Pass altogether.”

When the this is complete, EA Sports games will no longer prompt players to enter an Online Pass code, and other games will offer content for free.
