The famous free to play MMORPG, Ragnarok Online, has recently released it’s sequel, Ragnarok Online 2: Legend of The Second. This free to play MMO on the PC created by Gravity Corp of South Korea returns to the original mechanics and systems of it’s predecessor while introducing a new 3D engine.
Following the pattern of most MMORPGs; you start the game off by creating a character. Character creation is pretty standard as you can personalize your character by choosing hair style, color, facial features, and eye color. Compared to other MMOs, Ragnarok Online 2 did not have a very in depth character creation menu. After picking your character’s features, you then can choose your characters job. The job system in Ragnarok Online 2 is also heavily influenced by it’s predecessor. Ragnarok Online 2 features five starter jobs; these five jobs can later be evolved into various secondary jobs where you will be able to use different abilities and skills.
Ragnarok Online 2: Legend of The Second primary jobs
Swordsman – The Swordsman job uses “auras” that can be focused onto swords and armors to enhance their abilities. Swordsman can be tanks or they can be solely DPS in parties. Swordsman can change their jobs at level 25 to either a Warrior or Knight.
Magician – Magicians are the magic DPS in Ragnarok Online 2: The Legend of The Second. Magicians can change evolve to their secondary jobs, Sorcerer or Wizard at level 25.
Archer – Archers deal high ranged DPS. Using their powerful archery skills and physical strength; these protectors of the forest and animals can defeat any foe. Archers can evolve into their secondary jobs, Beastmaster or Ranger at level 25.
Thief – Skilled combatants and experts at managing poisons; thieves use disguises and assassination skills to defeat and trick their opponents stealthily. Thieves can change their jobs to either Assassin or Rogue at level 25.
Acolyte – Mighty holy users and healer of wounds; the Acolyte class utilizes gospel and blessings to heal their party members and enhance their abilities. Acolytes can also use their powers to defeat enemies and deal a fair amount of DPS. Acolytes can change their job to either a Priest or a Monk at level 25
After picking your character’s job, you then pick your character’s professions. You can be an alchemist, chef, blacksmith, or artisan. Use the resources around the RO2 world to create unique potions, meals, weapon, and armor.
One of my favorite aspects of RO2 is the ability to set up your own shop wherever you want. My character is an alchemist so after I created a bulk of potions and elixirs; I ventured to the middle of the zone I was leveling in and set up a shop for other players to buy my crafted items. Unlike other MMOs where the game has an internal auction house usually located in the heart of main cities; this feature makes it easy for players to sell their items at their leisure. When I go AFK for a bit, I can set up my shop to hopefully make some money while in the game.
Ragnarok 2 has some interesting and fun features. The game has beautiful graphics and music and for a free game, I was actually very pleased with game play.
