Ever heard of Terraria or Minecraft? Of course you have! But how about StarBound?
StarBound is a 2-D open world, survival sandbox game that is currently in development. Or maybe we should say open universe. The developer site states it best with the following:
“Starbound begins with you fleeing your homeworld in a space shuttle, just as it’s destroyed by an unknown enemy. With nothing to guide it, the escape pod shoots into space without direction, becoming hopelessly lost in a sea of stars. As luck would have it, the space shuttle touches down on a habitable planet and an adventure begins that will take you hurtling across the universe. Starbound contains both quests and story driven missions, buried inside its vast sandbox universe.”
From that point on you explore, build, explore some more and do anything you want! With an unlimited number of procedurally generated worlds the only ending occurs when your computer dies. They want each world to feel unique. “Much like old school point and click adventures, absolutely every object in the world, right down to the trees and flowers, can be
examined for a description.”
To top it off…you claim an entire planet for yourself! And that world is under your control, even to the point of terraforming it and changing it to match your desires.
So far the crafting system has over 1500+ items!
Also, one of the most important pieces, the development team is very active with the public. They make updates as often as possible on the Starbound website and community. They’ve also already managed to score over 1,000,000 dollars in Pre- orders!
