What if you woke up and realized you were in a completely different world. You lost all of your memories and you were surrounded by strangers. Then right after, what if you found out you were dead? The afterlife is a mystery for everyone but Angel Beats! shows us an interesting take on what happens to young children in the afterlife.
Yuzuru Otonashi wakes up in the middle of a school and right next to a strange young girl named Yuri. Yuri tells Otonashi that he’s dead and asks him if he will join the “Afterlife Battlefront” which is a battle against a mysterious, white haired girl named Angel. Otonashi is confused and realizes that he does not remember anything from his past life. When Yuri proves to him that he is in fact dead, Otonashi then agrees to join the fight. At this point, Otonashi learns that Yuri is accompanied by numerous other high schoolers who are all dead. Throughout the anime, Otonashi learns how each character died and about their tragic lives. Otonashi also uncovers the true story of the mysterious girl, Angel, and why all of these high schoolers are stuck in purgatory.
Angel Beats! features beautiful art, magnificent music, and characters that you will grow attached to. Each character has their own tragic story and Otonashi soon learns that the good truly do die young.
