Scarlet by A.J Gaughn

Almost everyone has heard the legendary story of Robin Hood. The story has been re-told many times with countless variations ranging from high profile actors and actresses portraying the main characters in movies, comedy skits, and Disney turning the story into a classic movie for children to enjoy. When I read the description of Scarlet by A.C. Gaughen, I was intrigued as the point of view was not from Robin Hood’s perspective at all but from one of his best “merry men”, Will Scarlet. The twist? Will Scarlet is actually a female in disguise with a very interesting past.

The book is told from the perspective of Scarlet herself as she partakes in adventures with Robin Hood and his other merry men. Being a female in the Hood’s band of men is difficult especially when Scarlet is trying to hide her ugly past from everyone who tries to get close to her including Robin Hood. However, Scarlet focuses on her goals which is stealing from the rich and giving back to the poor while staying out of the sheriff of Nottinghamshire’s spotlight.

Scarlet is filled with adventure, fantasy, and romance that I enjoyed quite a bit. This take of Robin Hood is definitely one that Robin Hood fans will not want to miss out on!
